At Stonebriar Smile Design, our team of compassionate and experienced dental professionals places emphasis on providing high-quality and thorough preventive care. What’s that mean for our patients? We want to help you avoid experiencing painful or severe oral health problems by stopping them in their tracks. We can do this when you visit us for your semi-annual checkups and cleanings. Each of our dentists is professionally trained to spot signs of oral health problems and treat them. This way, we can save you time, money, and additional hassle down the road!
Your semi-annual visits with us are divided into two parts, the checkup, and the cleaning. During your oral examination, we’ll start by checking the health of your gums and teeth, in search of any tell-tale signs of gum disease, like inflammation, swelling, and recession. We’ll also be on the lookout for any common oral health issues like dental decay.
After that, we’ll complete an oral cancer screening where we’ll look for any abnormalities such as lumps, sores that won’t heal, or patches on the inside of your mouth. We’ll also inspect your head, throat, face, and neck in search of signs of the disease. When it’s spotted early on, there’s a higher chance of successfully treating it, which is why we conduct a screening each time you visit us.
The last part of your visit is your professional cleaning. During this, we’ll use a special tool called a scaler to remove plaque and tartar from hard-to-reach places that you can’t get to with a regular toothbrush. We’ll use a substance called prophylaxis paste that feels slightly gritty and will safely polish your teeth and remove any surface stains. Finally, we’ll finish off by flossing between your teeth to remove food particles or debris that may be trapped.
There are so many benefits to keeping up with routine dental care. It can reduce your risk of experiencing an emergency and having to carve out time from your busy schedule to visit us. Instead, you can choose to schedule a visit on your own time every six months to prevent serious oral health problems from ever occurring in the first place. Here are a few ways getting routine checkups and cleanings can help keep your mouth in tip-top shape:
