What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown can be used to do a wide variety of things, such as enhance a tooth cosmetically or restore it structurally. It is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over the top and completely encases a damaged tooth. Dental crowns can be made of a variety of materials, including gold, a metal alloy, porcelain-fused to metal, and all-porcelain or zirconia. All-porcelain zirconia crowns are the best for mimicking a natural tooth in both look and strength, so we prefer to use them whenever we can.

Are You a Candidate for Dental Crowns?

Because each patient’s smile is different, it’s difficult to know if you’re a good candidate for dental crowns. The best way to find out is to book a consultation with our office. One of our experts will thoroughly examine your smile and the problems that affect it. Dental crowns may be right for you if you have a weakened, damaged, significantly chipped, decayed, or broken tooth in Frisco. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office if you’re interested in getting a dental crown.

The Dental Crowns Procedure

After we have decided that dental crowns are right for you, we’ll schedule your first appointment. During this visit, one of our experienced dentists will carefully prepare your tooth by removing a small portion of enamel if necessary. Then, they will take images and impressions of the damaged area, which are sent to a lab for the creation of your crowns. If the affected tooth is in a visible part of your smile, we’ll give you a temporary crown to wear until your permanent one is ready. After 1 to 2 weeks, you’ll come back into our office, where we will ensure that you’re happy with the results before permanently bonding the crown to your tooth.
